Baynham, Jan

Historical Romance – Joffe Books/ Choc Lit:

I live in Cardiff with my husband and write dual narrative, dual timeline novels about families and their secrets. Fascinated by ‘skeletons lurking in cupboards’, I like to explore how decisions and actions taken by family members from one generation impact on the lives of the next. Setting and a sense of place play an important place on all my novels.

As well as my native mid-Wales, there is always a contrasting location – Greece , Sicily and France. I have just signed another contract with Joffe for two more novels, both set on Greek islands.

    Hi Jan

I’m another Author Events writer and was struck by the stunning similarity between our interests. My debut novel – out on 28 June – is inspired by my ancestry research. I have a family tree dating back to 1420. My novel explores how decisions and actions from one generation impact upon the lives of the next – literally word for word as you describe! Not only that, the story centres on a Welsh family … it begins and ends in South Wales, via contrasting locations of Buenos Aires, Kentucky, Nashville, Charleston, Miami and Sarajevo. It’s almost like we were twins seperated at birth (twins also feature heavily in Under The Hickory Tree). Luckily, there is plenty of room for both of us to air our stories! We should swap notes if we ever cross paths at a literary event! Do you ever attend any of the Author Events functions?
