Author Events exists to create welcoming, accessible literary spaces for writers and readers — whether they’re published or unpublished, just starting out or well established.
We run a year-round programme of events including meet-ups, book clubs, talks, and workshops. Our events are ticketed, but we always offer free community places so that cost is never a barrier to taking part.
Friends of Author Events are the people who help make those free and supported places possible.
What does being a Friend mean?
Becoming a Friend of Author Events is a way to support access.
Friends help fund:
- free community places at events
- supported memberships for writers who couldn’t otherwise afford them
This ensures that people can still connect, learn, and benefit from opportunities — regardless of their financial circumstances.
Friends aren’t funding individual events or professional perks. They’re helping to remove barriers and keep Author Events fair, inclusive, and genuinely open.
Accessible literary spaces don’t happen by accident.
What Friends receive
Friends of Author Events aren’t joining for rewards — but we do believe in recognising the people who make this possible.
As a Friend, you’ll receive:
- occasional updates on the impact of your support
- early awareness of new initiatives and opportunities
- the option to be acknowledged on our website as a Friend of Author Events
Most importantly, you’ll know that your support is directly funding access for others.
How to become a Friend
You can become a Friend of Author Events by making a regular or one-off contribution.
Support can start from the equivalent of the price of a coffee, and every contribution helps fund free community places and supported memberships.
