Terms & Conditions

By submitting your manuscript to the Author Events – Manuscript Critique Service, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to the following terms:

1. Submission Criteria

• We accept full fiction manuscripts of up to 100,000 words. Submissions beyond this limit may be rejected or subject to additional fees, unless agreed in advance.
• Submissions must be written in English.
• Your manuscript must be formatted in industry-standard layout:
  • A4 Word document (.doc or .docx)
  • 12pt black font (e.g., Times New Roman)
  • Double-spaced
  • Left-justified with 2cm margins
  • Chapters starting on new pages
  • Indented paragraphs (no tab or spacebar indenting)
• Submissions must begin at the start of the manuscript (e.g., Chapter 1 or Prologue) and consist of consecutive chapters.
• Submissions must only include the manuscript and synopsis. DO NOT include: a table of contents, graphics or images.

2. Right of Refusal

• Author Events reserves the right to decline any manuscript at its sole discretion, with no obligation to provide a reason.
• This includes manuscripts that raise ethical concerns, contain inappropriate or harmful content, or if the reader feels they are not the most appropriate reader for this work.
• If your submission is declined prior to review, you will receive a full refund.

3. Confidentiality & Data Handling

• Your manuscript will be accessed only by the service coordinator and the assigned reader.
• All files will be permanently deleted within 30 days of the critique being delivered.
• No part of your manuscript will be retained, copied, shared, or used beyond the agreed purpose.

4. Reader Anonymity

• The critique will be provided anonymously. You will not be given the identity of the reader, and no identifying details will appear in the report.
• Any attempt to discover or contact the reader directly is strictly prohibited.

5. Scope of Service

• The critique will be a developmental report (approx 3,000 words) focused on structural, thematic, and stylistic aspects of your manuscript.
• This is not a copy-editing or proofreading service.
• Feedback may include suggestions, market-fit observations, and areas for improvement, but the reader will not line edit or rewrite your work.

6. Finality of Feedback

• Once the critique has been delivered, no further correspondence will be entered into.

7. Turnaround Time

• You will receive your critique within 6 weeks of confirmed submission and payment.
• Delays due to unforeseen circumstances will be communicated promptly.

8. Fees & Membership

• £300 for non-members
• £250 for Author Events members
• Payment must be made in full before work begins. Once critique work has commenced, fees are non-refundable.
• Payments are handled by our secure partner – The Book Hub

9. Copyright & Author Declaration

By submitting your manuscript, you confirm that:

• You are the original author and hold the rights to the submitted material.
• You have read and agree to all terms outlined in this document.
